Invitation to the 10th MID Day on May 10 – MIDs in Aviation & 3D Function Integration

We cordially invite you to the 10th MID Day on 10th May 2023. The online event will start at 4 PM (CEST) and is open to everyone free of charge. The 20-minute presentations will each be followed by a Q&A session.

Register now!

1st Presentation

At the beginning, Mr. Piechulek (Chair FAPS, FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg) will give the presentation “MIDs in Aviation – Challenges and Solutions in the Research Project Effect”.

The global challenges for the industry, such as climate change, disrupted supply chains, and the shortage of resources are forcing the industry to find new approaches. In aviation, this is being addressed by increasing eco-efficiency in the operation of aircraft and the use of additive manufacturing in production. In the research project Effekt, the Institute for Factory Automation and Production Systems (FAPS) is therefore researching the use of laser direct structured Mechatronic Integrated Devices (MIDs) in the aircraft cabin to substitute printed circuit boards and thus save weight. The project aims to build a Passenger Service Unit completely using MID technology which meets the requirements of the aviation industry. In the presentation, the resulting conflicts of goals in material selection, design, prototyping, and production are discussed and suitable solutions are presented. The presentation finishs with an outlook on future research activities.

2nd Presentation

Afterwards, Prof. Dr. Dreyer (TH Wildau & Fraunhofer IAP) will give insights into the topic “3D Functional Integration: From Microwave Sintering to Agricultural Systems of the Future”.

The lecture will range from basic research on microwave-assisted functional integration of electrical conductors and heating structures in composites (AIF-IGF project MikSin) to their use in the context of vertical farming concepts within the framework of the joint project food4future (Initiative Agrarsysteme der Zukunft), which is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and coordinated by the Leibniz IGZ.
